Lake Rising

Michael Turek

Lake Tanganyika is the second deepest lake in the world and a biodiversity hotspot. In the nineteenth century it sat at the heart of the European search for the source of the Nile and the scramble for Africa. Today, geopolitical tensions are rising, with the lake a key gateway to the resources of eastern DRC. Lake Rising documents the societal impact of rising water levels, overfishing, industry, and the demands of a growing population along the lake’s eastern Tanzanian shore.

Till Mines Do Us Part

Ece Gökalp

What a landscape remembers. The Latmos region in western Turkey is home to some of the earliest Neolithic rock art and settlements. Today, this cultural landscape faces increasing threat from mining expansion. Till Mines Do Us Part explores what stands to be lost as mining threatens both the landscape and the collective memory held within it. Inspired by these Neolithic artistic traditions, rocks and minerals gathered from the region are used to produce watercolours on bleached cyanotypes.

Teoswa

Yimin Chen

Born in the steel labyrinth of Shenzhen, I felt little belonging to its restless skyline. Instead, I was drawn to the villages where human warmth lingers, where fading traditions still breathe. Teoswa is a journey into the ancestral echoes of his mother's hometown - the Teochew region of Guangdong - and an intimate search for the meaning of home.

Tibetan Country Doctor

Jake Homovich

Tibetan Country Doctor is a long-term documentary project developed through collaboration with Zhaba Gyatso, a rural Tibetan doctor practising in western Sichuan's Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The photographs are annotated by Gyatso, bringing his own experiences and reflections to the work. Far from county hospitals and formal medical infrastructure, the project documents the everyday realities of providing healthcare across remote villages, monasteries and pastoral settlements.

Of All The Wild Paths

Claire Amaouche

I wandered from place to place, from solitude to solitude, trying to grasp their hidden essence. Little by little, it seemed to me that it was not nature itself - eternal, wild, impenetrable - that I was drawing near, but the shifting reflection of my own drifting, and the void at the heart of my existence. Of All The Wild Paths speaks to our relationship with ourselves and the landscape. Even in the wilderness there is evidence of those who came before. Through painted silhouettes Claire traces that connection between us, the landscape, and our predecessors. Her figures appear - almost ghostly - hinting at the ethereal connection between past and present.

Book of Days

Alvin Ng

Through the alchemy of hand-manipulated photographs, I breathe life into ancient verses, revealing their profound essence and forging a harmonious fusion of ancient wisdom and contemporary vision. Inspired by Ovid's Book of Days, Alvin's works suggest a hidden magic beneath the surface of our everyday world. Each image invites us to go beyond the surface, where ancient wisdom and myths speak through contemporary vision.

Wird

Bruno Hadjih

The wird is a Sufi invocation of incantations and prayers to reach the hal, a temporary state where the self dissolves into divine presence. Hadjih's colours and movements move away from a documentary approach to capture that feeling, and make the mystical appear closer.

Farewell to Elders

Mahmoud Khatab

I spent a day at the Egyptian museum, where it hosted the royal mummies for the last day, forever, before being carried in a parade into another museum, to be shown and scrutinised. To be taken away from everything else they crossed the Nile with. I made my greetings to everything else that bid their farewell, to kings and queens who already departed, who only chose to be buried south of here, who only chose to be carried across the west bank of the Nile, who chose to be buried into the afterlife. Who saw the intimate writings on their walls something only their souls will recognise and recall in their coming rebirth.

Miriam Stanke

Crossing the Zagros with the Bakhtiari was a glimpse into a way of life where movement is both necessity and freedom, a life guided by trust and a deep harmony with the land. Walking with the Bakhtiari as they make their annual journey between the plains of Khuzestan in Iran and the high summer pastures.

Metamorphosis

Claudia Fuggetti

Inspired by the notion that the ecological crisis is a crisis of perception, of how we experience the world around us. Metamorphosis invites us to reconsider our relationship with nature and to experience it as a living entity. Throughout the series, Claudia plays with perceptions of reality and fiction. The use of colour, perspective and intervention creates ambiguity that encourages new relationships with nature to emerge.

Woman Carrying Water Buckets in the Snow

John Peter Askew

On 8 March 1998, International Women's Day, John Peter Askew stepped outside during village celebrations near Perm, Russia, and encountered a woman carrying water through the snow. Snow falling onto the lens provides an unexpected frame, while the colour of her dress suggests that the hard work might soon give way to a more relaxed evening.

Ice Fishers
